Beulah headed to the McLean County Shootout last weekend. They played two games losing both. The first night of the shootout Beulah lost to Garrison 52-40 at the Turtle Lake-Mercer gym. The second nigh Beulah lost 56-28 at the Wilton gym.
Beulah fans, players, and coaches all walked away from the Mercer County Shootout unsatisfied with their 0-2 showing. One of the main reason’s for Beulah’s 0-2 showing was a lack of scoring. Beulah coach Kasey Koepplin said what he thought about his team’s offensive showing.
“We took a lot of good shots, we missed a lot of good shots – just keep shooting them,” Koepplin said.
“If they get frustrated and quit shooting, they can’t score either. We had a lot of good looks – as far as the Wing 3. We had some looks in the corner that we passed up because we didn’t get the ball rotated fast enough.”
Beulah has only been working on their zone defense for 10 days and it showed during the tournament. Teams found the weak spots and scored against it. Koepplin said getting his team comfortable in the zone is a big task right now.
