Beulah-Hazen pushed three wrestlers into the Region 4 finals. Jeremy Leintz (113), Ethan Lagge (138), and Tyrel Mellmer (170) reached the finals for Beulah-Hazen. Lagge and Mellmer came away with champion honors.
Leintz faced off against Tayt Wolding, New Salem-Almont, in the championship match at 113. Leintz was hoping to gain revenge for a loss to Wolding at the Region 4 dual tournament the weekend before.
Neither wrestler could score in the first period and the match entered the second period tied 0-0. Wolding recorded a takedown in the first 30 second of the second round, which put him up 2-0. Leintz needed to score to keep his championship hopes alive.
Time was dwindling down in the second period and it didn’t look good but Leintz somehow figured out a way to take Wolding down with 20 seconds left in the second round.
Wolding earned a controversial escape point near the end of the period, which put him up 3-2.
Leintz needed an escape point to force overtime but couldn’t get it. Wolding held on for the win in the third period 3-2.
