Beulah takes 5th at state

By Jarann Johnson

Beulah Miners fans will remember the 2017-18 state tournament as the tournament of giants. Beulah faced three teams with plenty of height and came out with a fifth-place showing at the Class B boys state basketball tournament, which was hosted by the Bismarck Event Center.
Opening Round
Beulah started the state tournament in a tough spot. They were going against the reigning state champs and No. 1-seed. Hillsboro-Central Valley also entered the game with a huge size advantage. HCV entered the game with three players over 6-4 who played in the rotation and at times all three players would be on the floor.
Beulah didn’t let HCV’s size intimidate them, jumping out to an 8-0 lead keyed by two 3-pointers from senior guard Jacob Weigel. Beulah had a nice 10-point lead after senior guard Derek Ferebee split a pair of free-throws.
