Beulah track takes 6th
By Jarann Johnson
Beulah didn’t add any new state qualifiers at their only meet last week. Beulah headed to the Hazen invite last Tuesday and finished sixth in the boys and girls standings.
Seniors Abbey Schantz and Joel DelaCruz continued to perform well. Both athletes finished with state qualifying marks in their signature events.
Schantz won the javelin with a toss of 116 feet and 9 inches. The toss wasn’t a season best but was close. Schantz’s season best toss is 118-05.
DelaCruz won the 100 in a time of 11.05, which is a season best mark. Joel’s brother, Joesph, was a 2016 100-meter state placer.
Joesph, a junior, didn’t participate in the meet because of injury but is expected to be back this week.
Beulah also picked up wins in the girls 4x200, and boys 4x100. The girls 4x200 was comprised of Erin Walcker, Chloe Senn, Emily Alt, and Tia Horning (1:54.56). The girls will need to shave off about 3 seconds to hit the state qualifying mark, which is 1:51.54.
The boys 4x100 finished first in 46.26, which is close to the state qualifying mark of 45.94 seconds.
One of the stand-out events for the boys was the long jump. Joel DelaCruz led the way taking 2nd place (20-07).
