Beulah VB catching fire
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners hosted Richardton-Taylor last week in a Region 7 counter. The Miners knocked Richardton-Taylor out of the Region 7 tournament last year and knew revenge would be a strong motivation for their regional rivals.
Beulah didn’t let Richardton-Taylor gain any confidence and won the match 3-0: 25-8, 25-9 and 25-15.
Set 1 started out looking like it was going to be fierce set. Both teams were matching each other’s effort and the set was tied five times: 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5 and 6-6.
Beulah took full control of the match with a 5-0 run which was highlighted by a kill from senior outside Abbey Schantz and an ace from sophomore libero Phoebe Garman.
Richardton-Taylor Head Coach Kayla Zent called a timeout to regroup and break the run. Beulah exited the timeout leading 11-6 and kept focused, reeling off 10 more consecutive points.
Garman had two more aces during the run and Beulah led 21-6. Richardton-Taylor earned a sideout to end the run, but it was too late. Beulah won 25-8.
