Beulah VB starts week with win

By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners started the week with a rare Monday evening home game against Underwood. Beulah senior outside hitter Abbey Schantz had one of her best games of the season, and Beulah won 3-0.
Schantz was ready right out of the block to play well. Schantz recorded a kill to tie the game 1-1, then added two consecutive aces to put her team in the lead.
Beulah didn’t let their lead go and controlled the set 16-8 when Schantz caught fire again. Schantz recorded three consecutive aces, pushing Beulah ahead 19-8.
Underwood Head Coach Mary Hefta had seen enough and called a timeout, hoping to cool Schantz down. Hefta’s goal to cool Schantz and the Miners down didn’t work.
Shcantz came out of the timeout and scorched two more aces, which put Beulah up 21-8 and brought Schantz’s first set total of aces to 7. Beulah didn’t relent and Schantz added one more ace, which gave her eight in the first set.
