Beulah wins region title in extra innings

By Jarann Johnson
Beulah came to the Region 8 tournament hoping to earn a state tournament berth. Shiloh stood in their way as the No. 1-seed and both teams met Thursday afternoon in Hazen for a rematch of last year’s Region 8 finals.
Beulah won the elimination game 5-3 in eight innings. Beulah fans went through an emotional ride during the game. The first emotion they experienced was frustration.
Beulah fans were sighing out of frustration during the first inning because of a freebie their team gave up. Beulah starting pitcher Mason Dolbec and catcher Aaron Vallejo didn’t quite connect on a pitch, allowing Canaan Fagerland to score from third.
Shiloh’s lone score in the first came with two outs. Dolbec calmed Beulah fans down with a strikeout ending the inning. Shiloh stayed in the lead in the second inning and led 1-0 going into the top of the third.
