Girls beat Mott-Regent
By Jarann Johnson
Last week started and the Miners weren’t in a good position. They were coming off a lost game to New England and only had one Region 7 win. They had games against Bowman County and Mott-Regent. Both games turned in favor of the Miners and revitalized the team for Region 7 play.
First up was a Thursday road game against Bowman, a team that beat the Miners earlier this year on a neutral court. The first time Bowman and Beulah played was on Dec. 19 in Killdeer. The Miners fought back from a big deficit in the second half and fell by one point.
This time around the Miners never fell behind big and ended up winning by 10 62-52 on the road. Next up was a Monday game against Mott-Regent – a team with only one win in Region 7 play. The Miners didn’t let Mott-Regent get comfortable in the game.
In the first quarter Courtney Mitchell and the Miners didn’t let up at all. Mitchell made four 3-pointers and her team led 31-4 at the end of one quarter. Mott-Regent didn’t get their first bucket until the one minute mark and trailed 28-2.
The Miners didn’t relax in the second quarter though. They kept the intensity and high pace going. The Miners led 54-24 at half time and Mitchell had 26 points. From there things just kept going Beulah’s way and they led 72-36 after three and won 85-52.
