Keep the wins coming
The Beulah Miners boys’ basketball team moved its winning streak to 12 wins last week, with a road win over Killdeer and home win over Glen Ullin-Hebron. The wins locked Beulah in as the top seed in the Region 7 tournament next week.
The week started with a road game against Killdeer. Killdeer has been a dangerous team all year but very inconsistent. They gave New England their first loss of the year but fell to last place Bowman County. So the Miners knew their first Region 7 game of the week wasn’t going to be easy.
The Miners didn’t start the opening quarter very well; they were tied 6-6 with 4 minutes and 22 seconds left. Then they exploded for a 12-0 to end the first quarter. Jett Hettich, junior point guard, started the run with five straight points – a 3-pointer breaking the 6-6 tie and a dashing behind-the-back layup for two points.
In the second quarter Killdeer only cut Beulah’s lead to single-digits once. Killdeer had the difference down to eight points with 6:30 left in the first half. But Luke Blood, junior post, connected on a 3-point play pushing the Miners lead back to double-digits 23-12.
The Miners kept things under control and maintained a strong lead into the third quarter. In the third quarter with four minutes left the Miners were still up 33-20. The Miners went on another strong quarter-ending run.
