Miners fall at buzzer
By Jarann Johnson
Redemption stories are supposed to be fun and uplifting but for Beulah Miners fans they were painful last Saturday. Noah Abel, Our Redeemer’s starting point guard, turned the ball over eight times but made a game-winning jumper late for a 61-60 win over Beulah at the Minot Auditorium Saturday evening.
Beulah didn’t struggle in the first quarter and took an early lead 20-14. Beulah seemed to be in control in the second quarter as well. They stretched their lead to 10 points on a 3-pointer by senior forward Jacob Weigel.
Beulah led 29-19 with about 4 minutes to play in the first half. Beulah couldn’t extend their lead before the half and found themselves fighting to hold on before the end of the half. Beulah held on for the halftime lead but not by much.
Beulah only led 35-32 when the third quarter started. Beulah’s biggest challenge was slowing down senior forward Leyton Lang. Lang scored 17 first-half points. Beulah made their adjustments and tried to watch Lang closer.
