Miners fall at DLB
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners lost one game in the 2012-13 season and lost five starting seniors. The growing pains of a young team are still showing for the Miners. The latest painful lesson was a 67-60 fall to the No. 5 team in the state, Des Lacs-Burlington.
The first quarter started out with the Miners in control of the game. The Miners defense forced two turnovers and led 4-0 early in the period. But by the halfway point the score was tied 4-4. The tie was broken by Tanner Holte a senior forward.
Holte made two free throws, giving Des Lacs-Burlington a 6-4 lead. The Miners regained the lead on a Jett Hettich, starting point guard, 3-pointer, but struggled to slow Holte down.
The 6-4 senior scored a 3-pointer putting his team back up 8-7 with 3:14 left in the period. That was the last lead change of the period. Holt scored four more points and ended the first period with 10 points.
