Miners fall in Region 8 finals
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners made it back to the finals for the sixth straight season after being knocked off by Shiloh in their first game of the Region 8 tournament. But they couldn’t top Shiloh a second time in the winner take-all championship game of the tournament.
Shiloh beat Beulah 15-4 in Washburn to earn their first trip to the state tournament since 2010. The game started with Shiloh sophomore Canaan Fagerland hitting a one-run double for the lead. Shiloh never looked back after that.
Beulah trailed 6-0 after three complete innings and didn’t seem like they were going to recover. Once Shiloh got a strong lead they never lost control of the game ended up winning 15-4 in six innings.
Fagerland was credited with the win for Shiloh. Beulah couldn’t pitch Mikey Morris because of an injury so they tired to piece together a performance as best they could with four different pitchers. The combined effort didn’t pan out well for the Miners. All four pitchers combined for 12 walks in the loss.
