Miners on 10-game win streak
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners have been hot lately. Nothing has been able to knock them off and last week they faced three more tough tests and came away with wins. The Miners topped Heart River, New England and Bishop Ryan at home.
The biggest game of the week for the Miners was a game with New England, a Region 7 foe. The Miners entered the game with one region loss and New England entered the game with two region losses. The winner of the game would have a chance to finish first in the Region 7 standings.
Randi Julson, senior forward, put his team in the lead early with four points to start the game. New England didn’t take long to break their scoreless streak and the game was tied 6-6 after a put-back by John Urlacher with 2 minutes and 30 seconds left in the quarter.
Julson put the Miners back in the lead with a bucket that started a 9-0 run to end the period and gave the Miners a 15-6 lead. Julson’s six points were the story in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Miners got key points from a reserve player.
The Miners got six of their first eight points in the second from Mason Brouwer, a senior. Brouwer scored a 3-pointer and converted a 3-point play during the Miners 8-0 to start the third quarter. New England was held to nine points in the period and the Miners led 32-15 at the half.
