Miners split season opener with Velva
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners started the 2017 season with a tough foe. They were going up against Velva in a non-regional matchup.
Early on things didn’t look too bad. Mikey Morris, started the game pitching for Beulah and didn’t walk any batters in his first two innings. The third inning is where things started to go south. Beulah committed an error with two outs.
Instead of going into the bottom of the third tied 0-0, Beulah was trailing 2-0. Morris recovered in the fourth taking Velva out in 1-2-3 order but Beulah’s issues with errors continued.
The Miners committed a total of five errors in the game, which led to them trailing 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. The Miners tried to rally but it was too late an they fell 7-6.
