Miners take on state
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners were taking their last swings of the season last Wednesday at the two-day Class B State Golf Tournament. The boys were in Fargo at the Rose Creek Golf Course and the girls were in Carrington at the CrossRoads Golf Course. Both teams finished in tenth place.
On the first day the girls found themselves in a pretty good spot. They were just over the 400-stroke mark at 402 and held the tenth spot. Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood was ninth with a 397 and North Star was right behind with a 402 at 11th.
The Miners didn’t have any golfers in the top 20 after the first day. Senior Jenny Zastawniak was close to the top 20 with a 90 to lead the team, but still two strokes away from being in the top 20. Hannah Obrigewitch was the only other Miner golfer to break 100 on the day.
Beulah put together a better Day 2 effort and passed the 400 stroke mark. The Miners shot a 380 on the day – eighth best Day 2 total. Improving by 22 strokes was impressive, but the rest of the field improved as a team, too. The Miners didn’t pass any teams in front of them and finished tenth (782).
Jenny Zastawniak did pass some individuals for a top 20 spot though. Zastawniak improved her score by two strokes, carding an 88 and finished 18th for Day 2 scores. The great Day 2 put the senior in the top 20 for tournament.
