Miners VB headed to state
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners and Dickinson Trinity Titans have battled again and again for the Region 7 championship. Last Thursday the teams added another again to their rivalry with a Region 7 championship and state tournament berth in the mix.
The battle was close but Beulah was three points better in each set and got the win 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-22). Even though the Miners got the sweep, none of the sets came easy and the first one started with the Miners trailing 5-0.
The Miners broke Dickinson Trinity’s streak with a Delaney Johansen, junior outside hitter, kill. Johansen’s kill started a 5-point streak, tying the game 5-5. Then Nicole Schramm, junior middle hitter, committed a serving error and the battle see-sawed between the teams.
Beulah trailed 12-11 after a Cassi Schutt, senior outside hitter, kill. But that’s when the see-saw ended. The Miners committed a serving error, keying a Dickinson Trinity 3-point run and giving Dickinson Trinity a 15-11 lead.
Miners coach Kevin Peterson called a timeout to regroup, but it didn’t look to be working initially. Dickinson Trinity lead 17-12, but then the Miners battled back. A Dickinson Trinity lift put Beulah back on the serving line and they added three points, shrinking Dickinson Trinity’s lead to two points 17-15.
