Murschel plays great but North Stars fall
By Jarann Johnson
Most of the time when a team’s goalie has a career night it means the team wins. For the Hazen-Beulah North Stars it wasn’t true. Bismarck Century got to the net early and frequently in a 9-1 win in Hazen last week.
Century is one of the toughest teams in the West Region this year. They entered the game with a 1-0-1 record. Century’s tie was a 5-5 affair with Fargo North at home and their only win of the year was a 4-2 decision over West Fargo.
Last year Century won the regular season West Region title with a 12-2 record in region play. So the North Stars knew they were going to be facing a tough team and needed to play mistake-free hockey.
The North Stars couldn’t manage long periods of time without mistakes and found themselves down 4-1 after the first period. Century scored about 1 minute into the game off an Alex Flicek, junior, goal. Hope wasn’t lost for the North Stars. Tyler Murschel, senior goalie, held up for 8 minutes before giving up the second goal of the game to Eric Schmidt, senior.
