New season begins Monday

There are two main schools of thought in winning basketball games. One is, it’s not the number of shots a team takes, but how many a team makes. The second is a team can’t score if they don’t shoot.

Beulah employed both strategies during the District 14 Tournament last week on their way to advancing deeper into postseason for the third seed in Region 7 action opening this Monday.

The Miners took two out of three district wins as their next competition will be against the second seed from District 13 at 4:30 p.m. MDT Monday at the Knights of Columbus Activities Center in Dickinson.

"Good to move on to another tournament, another season so to speak," head coach Jeremy Brandt said of the Miners’ third place finish.

Beulah 52, Glen Ullin-Hebron 46

During opening night action last Friday, Beulah rested on it’s experienced pair of seniors Josh Schank and Andrew Just to tame the Glen Ullin-Hebron Bearcats. Schank went 7-of-11 for 19 points and Just also reached double figures with 11 to guide the Miners to a 52-46 win.

Beulah opened up an 11-point lead in the first half, but Glen Ullin’s senior Jarrod Auer’s 12 second quarter points kept the game close. Beulah led 25-24 at the half shooting 55 percent from the field.
