Northstars Streak Snapped

By Jarann Johnson
Last Friday was filled with hope for the Northstars because they were on a winning streak and playing in their home rink with a chance to move up the standings, but also because it was a rare January day with Spring-like conditions.
Most of the Northstars’ hope fell before the opening faceoff because of a suspension. The Northstars lost starting goalie Colin Johnson for discipline reasons before the game, which was very bad because backup freshman goal keeper Dillon Schramm is still working through concussion protocol.
Head Coach Dan Frei filled the role of goalie with senior forward Alec Schroetlin. Senior Kaleb Weir and sophomore Lane Lundquist also put on the goalie pads before the game to see who had the most natural movement in the crease, but Schroetlin seemed like the most natural fit for the position.
Winning the open tryout for goalie didn’t have the best reward – a game against the state’s point leader, Senior Luke Amsbaugh. The first period and adjusting to a new keeper in a new position didn’t go well for the Northstars and they trailed 3-1. Amsbaugh had an assist and goal in the period.
The Northstars’ only first period goal was scored by freshman Mikey Morris. In the second period it looked like the Northstars figured out how to play with their new keeper.
