Sardelli spins 12 strikeouts

The Beulah Babe Ruth team was the best baseball show in town last week because the the Beulah Legion team was on the road.
Beulah faced off against Washburn/Wilton/Center-Stanton in a home doubleheader last week. Beulah swept the doubleheader winning 11-2 and 8-6.
During the sectional counter Washburn started Reed Backman at pitcher and Beulah started Dain Sardelli on the mound.
Sardelli didn’t get off to a smooth start, walking two of the first three batters in the game. The walks hurt more when WWCS’ Head Coach Jesse Henke called for a delayed double-steal with base runners on first and third with one out.
The call worked. Beulah catcher Mason Dolbec threw to second base and the runner at third bolted for home giving WWCS a 1-0 lead. Beulah didn’t waste time responding to WWCS early offense.
Mason Dolbec led off the bottom of the first with a single. Beulah’s No. 2-batter Nate Battest hit an RBI single to tie the game 1-1.
Beulah scored two more runs to take control of the game. A wild pitch during Mason Winkler’s at-bat added one run then Winkler hit into a fielder’s choice, which allowed another run to score.
During the second inning Sardelli seemed to be figuring out the strike zone. Sardelli took out the first two batters with strikeouts.
Tate Dixon wasn’t going to let Sardelli strike out the side and mustered a single to reach base. Dixon ran the base paths well. Dixon made it all the way from first to home because of two throwing errors.
After Dixon’s run around the bases Beulah only led 3-2. Sardelli didn’t let the mishap ruin his mojo and struck out the next batter, giving himself four strikeouts in the first two innings.
