Shot heard around Region 7
By Jarann Johnson
Special players make special plays. Beulah starting point guard Trey Brandt left no doubt in Region 7 fans minds that he is a special player. Brandt’s performance featured a game-winner while being fouled against Dickinson Trinity.
Brandt’s near-buzzer 3-point play secured Beulah’s third straight Region 7 championship, 57-54. Even though Brandt had the game-winner his team didn’t have the start they wanted.
Dickinson Trinity raced out to a 4-0 lead on a Cole Fitterer score.
Trapper Skalsky broke through for Beulah, scoring on a back door cut. Skalsky was fouled on the play.
After making the bonus free throw Skalsky went to the same cut for another three-point play, tying the game at 6-6.
Both teams remained close until the final two minutes of the first. Dickinson Trinity made a small surge, getting a three-point play from Jacob Daniel and a Tanner Soehren score. Soehren’s score put Dickinson Trinity up 18-11 at the end of the first.
