State Volleyball Preview
By Jarann Johnson
Finally, it’s here. The North Dakota Class B and Class A state volleyball tournament will be hosted by the Fargodome and feature 16 schools fighting for postseason glory. Only two schools will be awarded champion honors Saturday evening.
There are four first-round matchups in the tournament. The tournament opener will be No. 2-seed Langdon Area-E-M vs. unseeded Watford City. The teams met earlier this year with Langdon winning a tournament match 2-0.
Langdon is the definite favorite in this matchup. They only have three losses on the season and those losses were to Region 3 power LaMoure-Litchville-Marion. If Watford City wants to pull the upset they are going to have to play perfectly.
Langdon has a strong hitting duo in Callie Ronningen (419 Kills) and Jordyn Worley (311 Kills). Topping Langdon will start with slowing down those two.
The second game of the day will be No. 3-seed Thompson vs. unseeded Shiloh. Thompson will depend heavily on senior leader Taylor Zak (410 kills, 103 blocks). But there’s an experience question mark with this team because they only have three seniors.
