The goal for the Beulah Miners track and field team last week was to get a third athlete qualified for the state track and field meet. Right now the Miners only have two athlete qualified for the state track and field meet; Joesph Dela Cruz (100) and Eric Schaper (Pole Vault).
Dela Cruz ran well at the meet taking third in the 100 and fifth in the 200. Dela Cruz ran 11.49 seconds in the 100 and 24.21 in the 200.
Joel Dela Cruz, Joesph’s older brother, also placed in both sprinting events. Joel took fourth in the 100 (11.49) and fourth in the 200 (23.88).
The top time in the 100 in the state currently belongs to Dawson Kram (11.03) and the eighth best is owned by Chad Benjamin, Glenburn senior, in 11.31 seconds. Joesph Dela Cruz’s best time on the season is 11.34 seconds.
Eric Schaper didn’t compete in the pole vault at the Rugby meet. Even though Schaper didn’t compete he still has one of the best Class B vaults on the season.
Schaper’s best vault is 13 feet, which is third best in the state. The top Class B mark in the state belongs to Alex Mutch, Larimore senior, at 13-09.
Schaper competed in the long jump at the meet taking sixth overall with a mark of 18-11. Beulah also had one other athlete compete in the long jump.
