Turnovers force Miners to miss playoffs

Trevor Zacher tasted the turf enough Friday night.

So when he saw the blitz heading his way again, Beulah’s quarterback quickly tried to get rid of the ball to avoid yet another loss of yards. What the 6-foot-4, 170-pound sophomore failed to realize as he was brought down by two Minot Ryan linesmen was that a third Lion was just waiting for the bumbled ball.

During a pivotal moment of Friday night’s Class AA football game in Beulah, Zacher, trying to avoid a sack, tossed the ball right into the hands of Ryan defensive lineman Preston Cargo. The 280-pounder snatched the ball near midfield and lumbered 54 yards to extend a one-point lead to seven, and the Lions held on to win 21-19.
