Two wrestlers make region finals

Beulah-Hazen senior Tyler Erickson made his push to the region finals at 160 and fellow senior teammate Tommy Leintz made the push to finals at 182. Erickson’s finals match resulted in a runner-up finish and Leintz’s resulted in a championship.
Erickson battled first and faced off against Clayton Mattern (Bowman County). Mattern and Erickson didn’t give up any points in the first period resulting in a tie. Mattern took the lead 2-0 in the second period with a reverse.
Erickson countered with an escape, cutting Mattern’s lead to 2-1. Mattern grabbed some separation with a takedown near the outside of the circle for a 4-1 lead. Erickson needed to score and was given a penalty point as the period ended.
Now, Erickson trailed 4-2. Erickson started in the down position, which meant the match was his to win if he escaped and earned a takedown. Mattern didn’t let Erickson get to his feet and stayed in control of Erickson for the whole period, resulting in a 4-2 win.
