Wrestling starts season

By Jarann Johnson

Wrestling season is underway. Beulah-Hazen kicked off their season last weekend at Minot Early Bird Invite. The team only wrestled three wrestlers at the varsity level but it was a quality show. All three wrestlers placed.
Thomas Leintz, a senior, had the best day at the tournament. Leintz (182) took first place and won all of his matches by pin. Leintz didn’t waste any time in his first match, pinning Orion Olf Rock (Devils Lake) in 49 seconds.
Leintz’s next pin was more impressive. The senior won his next match over Corbin Okeson (Bishop Ryan) in 33 seconds. The championship was more of a challenge but Leintz still ended up with the same result, pinning Jorge Talamantes (Minot) in 3:26.
Kaden Sago, junior, was also close to earning championship honors. Sago (220) lost his first match of the tourney via pin to George DeMarce (Devils Lake) in 1:21. Sago’s next and final match went much better. Sago won the match over Peter Welsch (Williston) in 1:39, earning second place honors.
