Wrestling takes 10th in Linton
By Jarann JohnsonThe Beulah-Hazen Wrestling team was in action at the Linton Holiday tournament before Christmas on Dec. 20 and 21. The Miners had five wrestlers at the tournament place and the team finished tenth out of 24 teams overall.
Jeremy Leintz, freshman starter at 106, won his division. Leintz won his first two matches by pin and won in the semifinals with a 9-8 decision over Brandon Oein, Linton.
The loss was only Oein’s second of the year. In the finals Leintz got back to his pinning ways. The freshman wrestler pinned Spencer Sweeney (Larimore) in 4 minutes and 57 seconds. The Miners also got a high finish from Isaac Ripplinger.
Ripplinger, a junior starter at 220, took third in his division. Ripplinger’s tournament didn’t get off to a great start. The junior wrestler lost a close match 4-3 in his first match after an opening round bye to Cole Kelly (Oaks).
Ripplinger won his next three matches. Two of the wins were by pin and one was a close 5-3 decision over Brett Lang (Mobridge-Pollock). His last match of the day was a rematch against Cole Kelly (Oakes) and Ripplinger won the match 7-4, earning third place honors for his effort.
