2 generations collide

It isn’t often when the oldest members of a group meet the newest during a meeting, let alone to have them in the same family. That’s what made the District No. 7 American Legion and Auxiliary so special on Sept. 27.

Sometimes things don’t work out perfectly. The Center-Stanton Wildcats made it their season goal to advance from the District 10 tournament to the Region 5 tournament at the end of the season. The Wildcats finished the regular season fifth in the District 10 standings and had to play fourth seeded Washburn in the first round of the district tourney.

Oliver County residents will see two new commissioners on the county board in December. General Election is Nov. 6 and there are four names on the Oliver County ballot for County Commissioner. Replacing District 1 commissioner Dwaine Helmers will be either Keith Oestreich or Blake Wilkens. Replacing District 3 commissioner Kent Albers will be either Wm Bruce Van Oosting or Darrell Berger.

Stanton – There were about 100 people at the Stanton Civic Center Oct. 17 to discuss plans to turn the its former school into a hotel, and almost every hand went up in favor of the project.

The Wildcats were swept in two region games last week. The first game was a road game against Washburn in District 9 play. The second game was a loss to New Salem-Almont in a possible Region 5 tournament preview game.

Dusty, dry days appear to have vanished since the rains came to the state. Oliver County is no longer in a burn ban, thanks to the rain that settled into the ground last week.
