BNI Coal recognized for county conservation efforts

Just driving by this land, no one would suspect a few years ago a dragline was digging an enormous hole there while other mining equipment was extracting thousands of tons of lignite. Today this expanse of land has been restored so well that because of reclamation efforts completed by BNI Coal, Ltd., the company was presented the 2009 Conservation Achievement Award by the Oliver Soil Conservation District Board.

The North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts recognized BNI at the 71st annual meeting in Bismarck Nov. 23. Jay Volk, BNI Environmental Supervisor, and Wade Boeshans, BNI General Manager, represented the company at this event.
