Center-Stanton board looks at policies, land swap
The changing times are reflected in policies now mandated by the state of North Dakota. School districts must now have policies in place addressing pregnant students and students who are parents, and suicide prevention.
To address the state requirements, Center -Stanton Public Schools Superintendent Curt Pierce provided the board with a proposed policy update and a proposed new policy during the regular board meeting Oct. 8. The proposed update is for a policy for students who are pregnant or a parent. Pierce recommended adopting the policy as written by the state school boards association in place of the existing policy. The board was required to rescind its existing policy to move forward in adopting the new policy.
Board Member Stacey Olander asked about the wording for allowable time out of classes for childbirth, noting that the policy read “adequate,” without including a maximum period of time. Pierce advised that these cases would be different, and that the district would rely on doctor’s orders.
