Fallen lines cause temporary highway closure

For a brief space Thursday evening, traffic heading between Beulah and Hazen faced an unexpected complication in their usual route.
As a result of a storm that brought heavy rains and mighty winds to central Mercer County, a few power lines fell near the intersection of Highway 200 and County 19, east of Beulah and west of Buffalo Hill.
“It was right where the mine hill starts on the west side [of Buffalo Hill] by County 19,” Mark Schmitt, Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, said. He added the sheriff’s department acted to seal off the relevant portions of Highway 200 at about 6:30 p.m.
Schmitt said for a brief period of time vehicles were driving over the highway where the lines had fallen.
“We’re lucky, but we didn’t have any issue with public safety with that,” he said.
