Local agent tests for OPP in sheep
Project attracts $18,000 in NCRS Ag grants
A study that began in Center could help sheep owners fight against a troublesome disease.
“We’re trying to find out what the prevalence is within breeds and how much of a prevalence we have of ovine progressive pneumonia in the state of North Dakota,” Oliver County extension agent Rick Schmidt said.
Schmidt received more than $18,000 in grants from the North Central Region Sustainable Ag Research and Education Program in St. Paul, Minn., to study OPP in sheep. His study is called “New Method to Eliminate Ovine Progressive Pneumonia in Sheep Flocks.”
