‘Pink Night’ raises funds to fight cancer

By Annette Tait

Cancer rears its ugly head too often, even in small towns and rural areas. The Center-Stanton High School volleyball team is again fighting back with its annual Pink Night for Cancer Awareness, an event inspired by the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer.
“We’ve done it for a lot of years--I got involved when I came back [to the high school] in 2003-04,” CSHS Volleyball Coach Janet Erhardt said, noting she wasn’t sure whether the school had held similar events prior to that. “We like to do something to raise funds for a good cause, and it’s worked out well.”
The Coaches vs. Cancer program started in 1993 as a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches to encourage college basketball coaches, their teams, and their local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. T
