Most local candidates running unopposed
By Annette Tait
The only local office on the June 14 primary ballot with more than one candidate is the race for mayor of the City of Center. Voters will choose between current City Council Member Eric Casson and Oliver County Sheriff’s Deputy Shaine Towe for that office.
Two seats are open on the Center City Council: Casson’s seat, as he is running for mayor, and the seat vacated by Keith Erhardt. Erhardt resigned when he moved to the county and became ineligible to hold the seat. The lone candidate for the open seats is Michael “Mike” Schutt.
Voters may write in names for the second council seat; however, if there is no qualified write-in candidate, or all qualified write-in candidates decline the seat, the city council may choose to appoint a qualified individual to serve.
There are also two seats open on the Center Park Board, those currently belonging to Keith Vitek and Ryan Boeshans. The only candidate is Vitek, who is running for reelection. If there is no qualified write-in candidate for the second open seat, or all qualified write-in candidates decline the seat, a qualified individual may be appointed to serve.
