School board enters new academic year

School board enters new academic year
By Annette Tait
The June election resulted in continued Center-Stanton school board service for Loren Henke, Rick Schmidt, and Stacey Olander. Henke was reelected to the at-large seat and Schmidt was reelected to the Center seat, both for three-year terms.
Olander, who did not run for reelection, accepted the Stanton seat after Wayne Windhorst declined the write-in vote. Olander, who received the second highest total of write-in votes, requested appointment for a one-year term instead of the standard three-year term. Her request was approved by the board; an election will be held for the Stanton seat in June 2017.
Henke was voted board president, and Schmidt was voted vice president.
The first board meeting of the academic year was dedicated to reorganization of the board and general tasks needed to prepare for the upcoming school year.
