Center-Stanton VB gets big win in districts

By Jarann Johnson

A lot of people talk about how things with value are always worth fighting for. Most people also agree that anything worth fighting for is worth having. Well, The Center-Stanton Wildcats thought a Region 5 tournament berth was valuable and worth fighting for.
The Wildcats topped Garrison-Max in the District 10 tournament last week for a berth in this week’s Region 5 tournament. The match started off with Center-Stanton winning the first two sets and looking like they were going to earn a quick sweep. But things aren’t always as they seem and the Garrison battled back making the match a five-set affair.
In the first set the game was evenly matched in the early parts and tied 10-10. That’s when the Wildcats made their move, scoring four straight and securing the lead 14-10. Garrison-Max won a side out but the Wildcats added another four point streak making their lead 18-11.
The Wildcats lead survived a late Garrison-Max surge. Garrison-Max went on an 7-point streak, getting within two points of the Wildcats. Garrison’s streak started after consecutive Sarah Behles, junior, aces. But that’s as close as Garrison got in the first set. The Wildcats won a side out and Siam Simpfenderfer, senior outside hitter, followed with two aces, making the score 22-17.
