From small town to the big time

After a stellar season the Center-Stanton volleyball team can boast it has two more reasons to be proud: their roster includes not only the Coach of the Year out of Region 5 but the Senior Athlete of the Year for Region 5 as well.

Although many weren’t surprised after watching the pair all season, both recipients, head coach Janet Erhardt and senior Connie Miller, were not expecting the prestige.

"It’s a huge honor when your peers vote you in, I was not expecting it at all," Erhardt said. "I really, really appreciate it because there are a lot of good coaches out there and it’s a huge honor."

This is the second year in a row that Erhardt will be up for the coach of the year nomination at the state level and with 28 years coaching experience, Class B could be hard pressed to find someone more qualified.

Erhardt started her coaching career in Center for 13 years before moving up to accept a position as head coach at Bismarck State College for the next nine years.

But after having a family and longing for the quiet rural life again, Erhardt returned home to C-S where she has been the top Wildcat for six seasons. The physical education teacher and athletic director has accumulated an overall record of 552-334 including high school and college.
