Nagel takes second at state
By Jarann Johnson
Kori Nagel, a sophomore, came into the state meet with the best throw in the state. She was hoping for a state championship finish and for an early part of the preliminary round she was in first place overall.
She tossed out a throw of 119 feet. But Paige Haakenson (Nelson County) made sure to pas her. Haakenson threw out a toss of 122 feet and 8 inches.
Heading into finals Nagel was second and needed to pop off a big one. She threw out one that was 120 feet and 6 inches but she couldn’t get closer to her season-best of 131 feet and 8 inches. Haakenson took first and Nagel took second.
Even though Nagel didn’t win the meet she was still proud of herself. During her freshman campaign, she missed out on a state tournament appearance in the disc, finishing fourth at regionals. This year she took second at state. Nagel said her second-place finish was exciting.
