Postseason opens Monday for Wildcats
Slow starts have been a nagging pattern with the Wildcats this season as fans saw again when Center-Stanton traveled to Glen Ullin-Hebron Oct. 21 for a non-conference match. But the Wildcats showed the disciplined defense and service execution they are also known for to defeat the Bearcats 3-0.
But at the beginning of the match it was the combo of Connie Miller and Shantell Schutt at the net that kept C-S taking advantage of the Bearcats early miscues to jump ahead. Before long however, the court seemed too small for the Wildcat front row as a few hitting errors had the game close again.
Then the characteristic play of just enough to get by had the home team holding the Wildcats from any extended runs.
A Bailey Henke block, another Miller block and a kill from Schutt turned the tables, as the Wildcats owned the serve tied 12-12.
Hitting from both sides of the net, front row, back row and everywhere in between, Becca Hovey pounded kills, 14 on the night, including the one to tie 14-14.
"She was hitting on top of the ball instead of getting under it which she has had some trouble with," head coach Janet Erhardt said. "She was on and that was awesome."
