Region 5 tournament ends

By Jarann Johnson
The Shiloh Christian Sky Hawks completed the sweep last week. Earlier this winter the Shiloh girls won the Region 5 championship, and last week the boys did the same thing when they topped Solen Thursday.
The Sky Hawks beat Solen twice before the two teams matched up in the region championship and for Solen, it was the last test of the year. Most Region 5 basketball fans were pulling for Solen because the small school has never made the state tournament, while Shiloh has been there three of the past four years.
Early on it looked like Solen was finally going to get their region foes. Solen was playing good defense and led 24-16 near the end of the half.
Shiloh was struggling to figure out a way to score the ball and do it consistently. Shiloh’s first-half shooting percentage was near 29 percent from the field.
The offensive troubles switched sides when the teams switched hoops. Solen found themselves starving for a basket and Shiloh went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 24-all with 5:30 left.
Solen nibbled away a little bit at their basket hunger and tied the game at 32 before Shiloh guard Nick Pfaff started a 6-2 run with a jumper. Pfaff’s run put Shiloh in control entering the fourth quarter with a 38-34 lead.
