Taking care of business

By Jarann Johnson

Center-Stanton fans are hoping for a Region 5 title and a trip to the Class B state tournament. But to get there they have to take care of the first step, which is winning their first game of the region 5 tournament.
Center-Stanton swept Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky in their first game of the Region 5 tournament Monday night. Underwood is hosting the tournament.
Center-Stanton looked well on their way to an easy win in the first set. Katy Kraft recorded back-to-back aces putting Center-Stanton up 17-6. Kraft’s team closed out the set for an easy 25-10 win.
They found themselves in a tough situation in the second set, trailing 10-9. Morgan Vitek made sure to change that and tied the game with a kill. Teanna Hintz followed with a kill putting Center-Stanton up 11-10.
Once Center-Stanton got up they closed the set strongly. They went on a 14-5 run and won the set 25-15. Set 3 went a similar path. Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky tried to fight off the sweep and had an early 6-5 lead.
