Underdog status hurls Berger to the podium

Going into the Class B State Track and Field Meet for the first time last weekend, Wendlin Berger was overlooked as a strong competitor in the 100-meter hurdles. It’s a status that didn’t seem to bother the Center-Stanton junior as he burst out of the blocks for a preliminary time of 15.93 seconds. It was a shock to the other members of his flight as the 15th seed placed second in his flight.

"He’s just that good of an athlete. Nothing he does surprises me," C-S coach Jamie Entzi said. "You never know what he is going to do."
