Vitek and Erhardt shooting for state
By Jarann Johnson
Center-Stanton head coach Jane Erhardt remembers the first time she saw Morgan Vitek. It was about 12 years. Vitek was a small kindergarten student crying in the hallway that leads to the Center-Stanton High School gym.
Twelve years later Erhardt and Vitek have combined for a series of laughs, smiles and one Class B state tournament berth. They will try once again to lead Center-Stanton back to the state tournament this season. Vitek, one of Center-Stanton’s strongest hitters, will play a large role in Center-Stanton’s state tournament chase.
Center-Stanton reached the Region 5 finals in 2016 and 2017. They topped Shiloh during the 2016 season and fell Shiloh last year. During both of the Region 5 championship matches, Vitek’s competitive nature became clear.
Erhardt said Vitek’s inner competitive never-quit attitude is a great trait for a team-leader to have.
