Wildcats add another trophy to the case

"Fun and exciting."

Those are the words that head coach Janet Erhardt used to sum up a wonderful volleyball season that ended last weekend with Center-Stanton taking sixth place at the State Class B Volleyball Tournament in Minot.

And for the Wildcats, who finish the year 29-14, the final three days of their season were no different.

Dickinson Trinity 3, Center-Stanton 0

The luck of the draw has not been on the side of the Wildcats for the past two years. State’s bracketing is rotated every year but both in 2007 and 2008, C-S has opened the tournament against teams that eventually end up in the title match. Thursday was no exception as C-S faced off against Region 7 representative Dickinson Trinity.

The Titans came ready to play. And it showed from the very first point, which was an ace serve by Marinna Marsh.

That strong start put the Wildcats back on their heels Erhardt explained and C-S was never closer than 15-10 before falling a game back at 25-12.

"I didn’t expect (the girls) to come out nervous but they looked like they were," Erhardt explained. "We did not pass well. We weren’t aggressive at the net."

Again the Wildcats were caught standing up in the second game as Trinity opened with a 7-0 run. But the Titan charge was stalled at 13-6 after junior Becca Hovey got a hold of an outside set for the kill. Just like that, the Wildcats rattled off a five-point run. They kept the momentum as Jenny Erhardt blasted an ace to start another four-point rally at 18-11.
