Wildcats face reigning region champs

Fall in four sets
By Jaran Johnson
The Center-Stanton Wildcats wanted to find out just how good they were last week and if they had a shot at making a deep post-season run in the Region 5 tournament. The Wildcats faced the toughest player, Sydney Bentz, in the region and her Grant County team, the reigning Region 5 champions, early in the week.
The Wildcats lost to Grant County in four sets and Bentz showed why she was named to the all-state team last season. Bentz, a senior middle, led the game with 22 kills and 3 blocks.
Early in the first set the Wildcats led 4-1, but their lead wouldn’t hold. Bentz recorded two consecutive kills, tying the score 4-4. The set stayed close with two ties at 11-11 and 15-15 before Bentz put her team ahead once again.
The 5-11 senior middle recorded a kill, giving Grant County a one-point lead and spurring a 3-point run. Grant County used their 18-15 cushion to control the rest of the set and claim a 25-18 win. In the second set the roles were reversed.
