Wildcats fall on Homecoming
By Jarann Johnson
Athletes always say it’s easy to forget a big loss but hard to forget a close one. Last year the Center-Stanton Wildcats went to Mott-Regent and won by two points, 38-36.
That loss for Mott-Regent must have been a driving point in the team’s preparation this year. Mott- Regent moved to 2-2 on the year with a 48-14 win last Friday over Center-Stanton.
Early on it seemed like the Wildcats were going to keep their hex on Mott-Regent, going with an early big play. Weston Meckle found Cole Helmers on a 41-yard touchdown pass making the score 6-0 in the first quarter.
Mott-Regent showed that their troubles with Center-Stanton were over for the rest of the quarter and game. Joshua Wallace cleared the hex with two touchdowns – a 14-yard touchdown run and 36-yard touchdown pass from Brady Wegh – giving his team a 12-6 lead.
At that point the game still seemed close and Center-Stanton fans had hope of a homecoming win. But that hope was decimated by the end of the quarter.
