Wildcats fall to 1-3

By Jarann Johnson

They were 1-1, and looking to stay near .500 at the start of the week. The teams standing in their way to a .500 record were Beulah and New Salem. The Wildcats couldn’t earn wins against either team and fell two games behind the .500 goal.
The first game of the week was a road game against Beulah and early on it was close. The Wildcats found Noah Johnson, senior post, on their first possession of the game for a 2-pointer and the lead. Shortly after the Miners answered with a bucket from Casey Walcker, sophomore forward, tying the game 2-2.
The game stayed tight until about five minutes remained in the opening period. Alec Battest, a sophomore guard, scored on a drive giving the Miners a 6-4 lead. From there the Miners went on a 14-0 run keyed by two Cole Messerschmidt, senior starting guard, 3-pointers.
The Wildcats called a timeout trying to end the run with the Miners up 20-4.  Action started back up with Beulah staying hot. The Miners scored six straight, making the score 26-4. That’s when the Wildcats finally ended the run.
