Wildcats keep improving marks

By Jarann Johnson
The Center-Stanton Wildcats competed in two meets last week. One of the meets had a state-qualifier.
The first meet of the week was the Badlands Conference meet, which was hosted by Hazen. Danny Kraft didn’t record any first place finishes at the meet but had some of his best jumps of the season.
Kraft took second in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet and 3 inches, which is six inches away from state-qualifying.
Kraft also came close to state-qualifying in the triple jump. Kraft’s best triple jump effort was 40-10, which gave him second place honors, but left him 8 inches short of a state-qualifier in the jumps.
Macauley Haag also had a strong day in the triple jump. Haag took seventh place with a leap of 37-02.
There was only one other jumping event the Wildcats placed in – the high jump. Kraft took fourth with a jump of 5-08.
The javelin was the only throwing event the Wildcats placed in. Haag took sixth with a toss of 132-07 and James Henke, sophomore, was eighth with a toss of 126-07.
The second meet the Wildcats attended was the New Salem Invite, which was held at the Shiloh Christian track in Bismarck. Kraft had a strong day to lead the boys, scoring 18 points at the meet.
Kraft won the high jump with a leap of 5-08 and came in second in the long jump (18-06).
