Wildcats produce 10 placers, six two-event winners
Last Thursday the Wildcats went to the Central McLean Varsity Invite and the junior high team competed in the Badlands conference meet in Beach on Friday. The Wildcats had multiple placers in both meets, and even had a weekend total of at least eight two-event winners.
On Thursday, at Central McLean, the Wildcats came away with a good showing in the men’s triple jump. The Wildcats placed three contestants in the event that took fourth, fifth and sixth. Weston Meckle led the way with a fourth place finish, jumping 35 feet and 9 inches. Danny Kraft followed at fifth (35-04) and Levi Johnson grabbed sixth (32-09).
The triple jump wasn’t it for the trio though. They each placed in another event at the meet. Meckle took seventh in the 100, finishing in 12.24 seconds; Kraft added a fifth place high jump (5-04); and Johnson placed seventh in the javelin (112-09).
The girls also had a two-event placer in Katie Windhorst. Windhorst took fifth in the triple jump (27-04.75) and eighth in the high jump (13-2.50). Madeline Henke was the only other placer for the girls’ team, taking eighth in the shot put (27-01).
The Wildcats will head to Underwood today and try to produce more two-event placers. The meet is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
The junior high track team competed in the Badlands Conference meet last week. The meet was separated into seventh and eighth grade divisions, with at least 14 teams in each division. The Center-Stanton Wildcats had five placers – two eighth grade boys, one seventh grade boy, one eighth grade girl and one seventh grade girl.
