Wildcats split double-header
By Jarann Johnson
The Wildcats hosted the Glen Ullin-Hebron Wildcats in an all-you-handle basketball affair on the last Saturday of December. There were four games at the Center-Stanton gym – varsity boys, varsity girls, junior varsity girls and JV boys. The Wildcats split the varsity games.
The Wildcats topped Glen Ullin-Hebron six days before the teams met again in Center for a rematch of the Wildcats’ 41-38 overtime win. Both teams knew what the other wanted to do and that an easy win wasn’t likely.
Early in the game the Wildcats made it look easy though. The Wildcats lead 6-0 and scored on their first three possessions. But Glen Ullin-Hebron cut the deficit in half with a 3-pointer. Next Glen Ullin-Hebron held the Wildcats scoreless for three minutes.
During the Wildcats’ offensive slump Glen Ullin-Hebron got five points from Micheala Gerving and grabbed an 8-6 lead with two minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The Wildcats broke their offensive slump with 27 seconds left in the quarter on a Tristen Henke free throw, getting the Wildcats within one point 8-7.
